For the love of Nutella

Standing at my door I watch the rain beat down. I want to go run, I  want to go ride my bike, but it seems the rain is not going to ease anytime soon. So instead I sit at my computer staring at the screen wondering what I should write about.

My phone beeps with a message from my biking partner in crime, disturbing my moment lost in thought, bringing me back to my blinking cursor.

As much as I love running alone, I prefer riding my bike with someone else. The competitiveness that it brings, trying to beat the other, making random stops to take photographs or stopping to grab a coffee and enjoy the wonderful summer days. I miss my biking partner.

I miss my friend, not just because we go ride our bikes for miles, but because when I think I cannot do something, he pushes me to do it, when I want to talk about food, he indulges me with letting me rant about it, when I have a bad day, he lets me vent and most of all when I need a friend he knows how to be there for me.

No matter how much I stare at the screen, my mind is blank, I hate when my plans go awry and right now all I want to do is go for a run as I had planned. I am a planner – if I have friends coming for dinner, I will plan the menu for days, if I am planning a trip, I will plan for weeks, no matter what I do, I like plans.

That by no means does not mean I am not impulsive or spontaneous, I am, but I prefer things being planned.

Since my day is not going as planned and my mind seems to be blank, I could go read a book or catch up on some emails. However, I instead decide to head to the kitchen and create my own storm.

The rain continues, which makes it a perfect day to turn the oven on, turn the music on and get into my little baking zone.  I stand in my kitchen mulling over what I should make, when the bottle of nutella catches my eye.

I recently got on the Nutella bandwagon, my friends tried to get me to taste it but for various reasons I never bothered. I would buy small sachet’s and it would sit on my kitchen counter for weeks before it got tossed in the trash unopened.

Finally, I decided to try it,  and lo and behold I realized I had been missing out on something great (maybe it was a good thing) now my latest obsession is Nutella, I want to find ways to incorporate it into everything I can think of Nutella and strawberry tart, nutella doughnut muffin and on and on it goes.

So why not a Nutella cupcake, just for my friend. He might not be here to enjoy the cupcake,  but this one is for him, for listening to my endless rants about loyalty, betrayal, heartbreak and lets not forget food but mostly for being there to when I needed a friend, in this day and age when I find it hard to trust friends…this one is for you.

About my random musings

I am originally from South East Asia and I moved to the US about 15 years ago to follow my heart. My heart has since been broken a few times, but I continue to be on journey of trying to mend it. I could talk about running, baking or writing in a small crowd, but put me in a room full of strangers and I will be the one standing in a corner people watching. When I am not writing or running, I would be in my kitchen, flour strewn all over the kitchen counters, music playing in the background and me just rolling and folding dough, excited about what my creation will turn out to be. Besides that I love passionately, when I love, I give it my all, not always a good thing, but that is who I am. I jump both feet in and sometimes I come out with regrets but having learnt a lesson. I believe everything happens for a reason and this is my place to share bits and pieces of my life, my adventures and sometimes misadventures. Hope you enjoy reading my stories as much I enjoy sharing them with you.

Well, I’m not really a cook/baker but I have an idea of how you can satisfy your Nutella craving: a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich! Throw in some sliced bananas for even more flavor! I’ve been enjoying Nutella in many ways, since 1983.

    • Thank you. I definitely will give it a try with the peanut butter with the nutella. As much as I love it, I might have been safer without finding out how good it is. Thank you again for your suggestion and for stopping by.
