What is life without food & friends

“I am not a glutton, I am an explorer of food”

Typical vacations generally involve a lot of exploring on my part, but for once I decided I am going to actually enjoy a vacation. Well I know that little thing called a half-marathon is what I must be training for, but for a moment it seems I have forgotten about it and just indulging in a true vacation, California style.

This has turned out to be more of  a culinary expedition, rather than exploring the city. Fortunately my friends understand my obsession with food and considering they share in the said obsession makes it more fun. They had a list of places that I have to eat at and of course since I am not one for disappointment I have done a lot of eating.

Despite all good intentions of none touristic things,  I did stroll down Hollywood Blvd. I may live on the East Coast, but it seems I still look like a foreigner here. The few people chose not to believe me when I told them I am from the East Coast, so finally to make it more fun, I told them where I am originally from.

The guy handing out CD’s of his music, asks me, if we have music in the country I am from. I wanted to ask him, to give me the CD for free, so I could listen to this thing, he calls music.

The biggest surprise for me was seeing the number of homeless people on the streets. In my mind, I had built this image of Hollywood Blvd, where celebrities stroll around all glitter and glamor that somehow seems to resonate with Hollywood. However, it was quite shocking to see reality of this place. Once I got over that, I enjoyed the tour of celebrity homes…well more like celebrity gates. What is a vacation if I don’t do at least one thing which was touristic.

After all the food I have consumed, I suddenly recall that I have less than 3 days for my half marathon, therefore I reluctantly dragged myself to a park and ran 11 miles. To be honest my goal was less than that, but I forgot where I had parked, so I continued to run till I found the car.

Now that the running is taken care of, I could feel less guilty about going back to more eating.

So we sit here at a coffee shop off the beaten path, trying to plan the rest of my vacation of course most importantly the places I should eat at.

Despite all the food, the not so glamorous streets and the crazy traffic, nothing beats the time spent with my best friend, laughing and talking over all the food that we have consumed.

If you have a favorite place or a favorite place to eat/drink, please share in the comments section, I would love to check it out.

About my random musings

I am originally from South East Asia and I moved to the US about 15 years ago to follow my heart. My heart has since been broken a few times, but I continue to be on journey of trying to mend it. I could talk about running, baking or writing in a small crowd, but put me in a room full of strangers and I will be the one standing in a corner people watching. When I am not writing or running, I would be in my kitchen, flour strewn all over the kitchen counters, music playing in the background and me just rolling and folding dough, excited about what my creation will turn out to be. Besides that I love passionately, when I love, I give it my all, not always a good thing, but that is who I am. I jump both feet in and sometimes I come out with regrets but having learnt a lesson. I believe everything happens for a reason and this is my place to share bits and pieces of my life, my adventures and sometimes misadventures. Hope you enjoy reading my stories as much I enjoy sharing them with you.
