When all else fails, there is always chocolate

It was one of those days where a long run would have been the ideal solution, a little sunshine, a little exercise and all the solitude of being alone listening to my music with my random thoughts.  However, when I stepped outside the cold weather is what blew in my face, making me want to get out of my running shoes and stay indoors instead.

I go through days where I want to avoid being in company at all costs, giving me a chance to catch up on reading, writing and cleaning and maybe even some moping.

Since I was in no mood for running in the cold temps, I decided to maybe start to sort through my things to get ready for my move.  It is unbelievable the things I have saved from all my trips overseas. Entrance tickets to museums, even baggage tags, money from different countries and hotel notepads and pens.

Instead of continuing with the cleaning, I stop and start to reminisce about all my trips and how much fun I have had on all those trips and I want to start planning another trip. However, when reality strikes, I cannot plan any long trips for the next few months because I have to start making a decision about moving.

Even though I have more than 3 months to figure it out, I am one who can start worrying about it for 6 months ahead of time. Whenever, I try to talk to my boy friend about it, his response is stop stressing you have 3 more months ! He is right, I do have 3 months.  However it  does not mean I will stop stressing about it till I lock that door and walk those steps for one last time.

If you have been reading this blog you know, when I am stressed, sad, unhappy, happy I run or go bake.  Right now I am stressed and since running has been stuck out of my list, I suppose baking it has to be for now.

The box of strawberries stare at me from the counter along with the bag of blood oranges. I have to pick one fruit, because it’s unlikely I can find something that will incorporate both items.

Strawberries and chocolate always work, so I make my favorite chocolate cake because that is what I want, but the strawberries can always be a decoration for chocolate cake. This is one of my favorite chocolate cakes and the easiest recipe. This just requires, butter, sugar, eggs and chocolate chips and 2 bowls….ok maybe 3 bowls.

The cake is now baked, I grab my book, a piece of cake and settle in to read my book. The running might not have happened today, but there is always tomorrow, because for now, I have my solitude and cake and thoughts of moving….oh there is 3 more months for that.

About my random musings

I am originally from South East Asia and I moved to the US about 15 years ago to follow my heart. My heart has since been broken a few times, but I continue to be on journey of trying to mend it. I could talk about running, baking or writing in a small crowd, but put me in a room full of strangers and I will be the one standing in a corner people watching. When I am not writing or running, I would be in my kitchen, flour strewn all over the kitchen counters, music playing in the background and me just rolling and folding dough, excited about what my creation will turn out to be. Besides that I love passionately, when I love, I give it my all, not always a good thing, but that is who I am. I jump both feet in and sometimes I come out with regrets but having learnt a lesson. I believe everything happens for a reason and this is my place to share bits and pieces of my life, my adventures and sometimes misadventures. Hope you enjoy reading my stories as much I enjoy sharing them with you.
